Time is given for Greenwich main time. For USA subtract appr. 6 hours (11 AM
will be 5 AM), for China add appr. 8 hours, for Australia add appr. 9 hours
(the difference between your local clock-time and GMT). Given times are NOT
exact, they may err some in either direction.
I do not know if the most important hexagram for the day is the one of
midnight, or the one of sunrise, or two hexagrams: before and after the
given time. If anyone has experience, then please share it!

July 11
Sun: a 19 until 05.50 GMT (after this time comes hex.52.2, see July 12)
Hex.51.2 The shock comes, danger. A hundred thousand lost coins. Climb the
nine mounds, do not pursue, the seventh day you will acquire them.
Do not fear loss, do not chase after things. You have what belongs to you,
and if you lose it, it will return again. Fears are apt to chase things
rather than to hold them.
Sabian Symbol: A priest performing a marriage ceremony
Ceremonies are medicine against fear of losing.
°
Changing to 54.2 Dim-eyed yet able to see. Harvest: determination of a
hermit.
Make your life not bigger than you are yourself. Its richness does not
depend on its size, but on your presence in it. If you fill in your
territory everywhere to its borders, it is a greater life than an unlimited
space which is not full.
Sabian Symbol: A woman awaiting a sailboat
If your life is the waiting, you live. If it is the boat, you don't.
*
July 12
Sun: a 20 until 07.03
Hex.52.2 One cannot save anyone's soul. One can only give the tools one's
own soul harbors, like love, harmony, creativity, even the sharing of
sadness. It is up to the other how to use it.
Sabian Symbol: Gondoliers in a serenade
°
Changing to 18.2 Ramming against the mother's decay. No determination
possible.
You exist, you live, but if nobody sees, then you almost cannot see it
yourself anymore. So make them hear, live visible, audible, touchable. Don't
just happen to be on the world but live. Make everyone see and hear, make
yourself see and hear. Move!
Sabian Symbol: A woman suffragist orating.

Can anyone recommend a website that gives a good introduction to the I Ching ?

A colleague of mine is a martial artist who's shown me a Kung Fu book where Yin/Yang is interpreted as meaning attack/defend. (I can explain a bit more if anyone's interested.) He'd like to learn about the I Ching. Any thoughts ?

Thanks.

Every best wish,

Mick

Hex.58.2 True exchange, auspicious. Repentance goes away.
(Deep and relaxed exchange makes all heaviness go away. Talking or even only
feeling the others presence puts everything in perspective. A shared heavy
heart weighs only half as much, a shared happy one is twice as happy)

Sabian Symbol: Contentment and happiness in luxury, people reading on

Changing to 17.2 Related to the small child, losing the big man.

be found. So live the small. To follow higher aims is not a question of
ability, but of impossibility to follow anything else.
Another meaning of this line: follow like a child, and follow what is
innocent in the other. This is the most complete following ever)

Sabian Symbol: Two Dutch children talking
(Same interests is great - or small? Depends)

(Time is given for Greenwich main time. For USA subtract appr. 6 hours (11
AM will be 5 AM), for China add appr. 8 hours, for Australia add appr. 9

I don't know if it is 'done' to recommend my own website, and I have no idea
if this is what he is looking for. I like it - would be weird if I didn't -
but it is not THE I Ching. It is all my personal ideas.
The best thing I ever saw is an I Ching software, made by Marc Griggs-Smith.
You can download a restricted version at
http://sundialler.com/yi_jing/index.html Complete it is 30 UK pounds. But I
don't think that is what he wants.

Good is Dan Stackhouse http://users.lanminds.com/tlc/iching/ but he gives
only the hexagrams and not the lines.

A great site if you want to know meanings of characters:
www.ns.net/~cpolish/DEFAULT.HTM The whole (almost..) Yi Jing. Click on any
character and you get its meaning and occurrences.

Makoto Ogino: http://member.nifty.ne.jp/index_Z/index.htm It is about the
I Ching in Japan, but you find here a lot of wonderful information about the
I Ching and many many other related systems. Extremely good and extensive.
No I Ching, but a lot of information.

A beautiful site about I Ching with the possibility to get a (high quality)
reading: www.onlineclarity.co.uk
There is a 'friends forum' where one can read many questions with answers
(most about love, seems to be the hottest topic in most people's life)
Same author: readings of all hexagrams. Interesting to see how others
explain their cast. Add yours! www.ichingresources.co.uk

For a martial artist, hexagram 29!
The tag of hex.29 is not 'pit' but 'repeated pit'. This is important,
repeating is Xi, and this character is a picture of the beating of wings.
Something done again and again.
Its meanings are practice, routine, skill, rehearsing, habit, teaching by
repeating. So the name can be repeated danger, but also getting used to
danger, or reversed: the danger of routine.

The text accompanying hex.29 on my website:
"To get out of dangers or misery is not by solving problems. It is by
leaving the fear. In the arts of fighting one learns to get used to danger,
so it does not call up fear anymore, and defense can come entirely out of
one's skill. No fear interfering.
Then one can be like water, adapting, fitting into any form. Water in a
cup acquires the form of the cup, in a lake the form of the lake. It is
smooth and flowing - and can be terribly crushing.
Deep inside one has a stable, quiet and safe core, but in the course of
life, most people forget about it. Just remember and no danger can afflict
you. Visit the dark secret depths of your heart and bring the wisdom of your
soul back to life.
Water is the primeval chaos, the great mother of everything, without form
or limit, eternal. It is a gift of the gods, and to go to its source is to
return to holiness".

LiSe,

Wonderful stuff ! Thanks very much for this and for the website links. (I think it's fine to recommend your own site).

I get a martial arts type feeling from hx 57 as well.

The same sense of adapting, filling any space but being able to strike with irresistible power.

Thanks again,

Mick

>From 16:15 rest of the day, until July 21, 17:25 GMT:

Hex.61.2 A crane calling on the shady Northern slope. Its young joins in
singing. I have a good wine-cup, I will empty it together with you.
(The roots of every interaction are deep inside. If your words and actions
are a true mirror of what lives in your heart, they will be creative and
able to stir up a reaction in others. The greatness of an artist is in the
first place determined by his faithfulness to his truth, and only secondly
by his talent. Talent without truth makes kitsch.)

Sabian Symbol: A Muse weighing twins
(Art comes into being when heart and actions, left and right, are
identical.)
°
Changing to 42.2 Someone's increase. Ten pairs of tortoise shells cannot
oppose it. A long range determination is auspicious. The king presents an
offering to the Supreme Being. Auspicious.
(Gods are an 'outside' which is deep inside, the inner spark, the Golden
Flower, the gem, whatever. This inner spark is the reason for being
augmented, no augury will ever contradict it. Other people or fate will
cooperate too.)

Sabian Symbol: A large diamond not completely carved
(The cutter can judge and see the result before anything is visible.)

(Time is given for Greenwich main time. For USA subtract appr. 6 hours (11
AM will be 5 AM), for China add appr. 8 hours, for Australia add appr. 9
hours (the difference between your local clock-time and GMT). Given times
are NOT exact, they may err some in either direction. I do not know if the
most important hexagram for the day is the one of midnight, or the one of
sunrise, or two hexagrams: before and after the given time)

(The farmer prefers the chicken over the pheasant, because the profit it
gives is certain. The chicken prefers the farmers wife, because she scatters
the grain. Higher is seldom better.)

Sabian Symbol: A Daughter of the American Revolution
(Not eager for another revolution when life is good)

°

Changing to 32.2 Regrets disappear.
(When one is master over one's passions, one can find in life many
opportunities or blessings, love or contacts, which are denied to those in
whom they conjure up greed or lust. Beauty is a thing to enjoy, not to
grab.)

Hex. 3.3 Approaching the deer without precaution, it only enters deep into
the forest. The noble man feels the signs, so stops. To proceed brings
distress.
(Who charges at things without thinking will put them to flight. A lot of
fuss only makes the goal recede. Careful, step by step and with diplomacy,
that way one accomplishes most.)

Sabian Symbol: A case of apoplexy.
(Blood is not made to boil)
°
Changing to 63.3 The high ancestor subjugates the Gui region. In 3 years he
conquers it. Small people are of no use.
(Conquering and subsequently keeping things can only succeed with patience,
tenacity, perseverance, purposive-ness. In other words: with a strong
character. One moment of inattention or weakness and all may be lost.)

Hex.4.3 No benefit of taking a woman who, when she sees a rich man, loses
control of herself. No ground for harvest.
(Imitating slavishly or running after urges causes loss of one's own
character and dignity. In your own eyes as well as in other's eyes.)

Sabian Symbol: An epidemic of mumps
(Getting infected means losing one's face.)
°
Changing to 18.3 Ramming against the father's decay. There is some regret.
Without big fault.
(Fighting decay and weakness will only succeed if one exaggerates a bit.
Straightening something bent needs a little bending in the other direction.)

Sabian Symbol: Sunshine just after a storm
(Never seen a brighter world)

 July 24

>From 20:30 rest of the day, until July 25, 21:50 GMT:

Hex.5.3 Waiting in the mud. It will attract bandits.
(Feelings have a tendency to fall asleep when they have to wait. Sometimes
an impulsive, maybe foolish, act is better than becoming dull. Dullness can
cause much greater disaster than an occasional foolishness.)

Sabian Symbol: A woman having her hair bobbed.
(Off is off, so be happy with it.)
°
Changing to 60.3 Not gathering restraint, the consequence is gathering
laments. No fault.
(If one's nature is not to restrain oneself, one gets into trouble. Don't
lament it too much: it is part of what you are. If you accept yourself, then
accept the trouble too.)

Sabian Symbol: A baldheaded man
(The old folks said: too much sex. Science says: too much male hormones.)

auspicious. If following king's affairs: without accomplishment.
(Having earned one's merit is great, but don't make a habit of relying on
it. It may help you get an official job, but not achievement. For achieving
one has to renew and prove one's value day after day. Even so when one's
merits are officially approved already.)

Sabian Symbol: A man formally dressed and a deer with its horns folded
(Wait till you see them in the weekend, climbing mountains.)
[for this one I will have to find a better comment]
°
Changing to 44.3 The buttocks without skin. Might be the journey had an
inferior start. Danger. Without great fault.
(The heart enters everything new too impulsive. But the heart can also
notice immediately if anything feels wrong: listen to it. If you change
right in the beginning, it is still possible to make a new start and make
your voyage or enterprise a prosperous one.
And: For making a heir one has to take off all make-believe and stand naked.
If you really want to accomplish something together, then show yourself with
all your good and bad assets. That way your start will lack decorum, but it
will be healthy.)

(Be severe in what you accept and what not. One rotten apple can spoil a
whole basket, so throw it out. If that is not possible, then leave yourself.
You have just one life, don't waste it.)

Sabian Symbol: An old-fashioned woman and a flapper
(Both okay but wrong combination)
°
Changing to 39.3 To proceed: limping. To come: reversing.
(When your life does not feel good, then turn inward and examine your true
feelings. Do you live what agrees with you? Do you have the feelings you
want to have, find the meaning in life you seek? Be severe and discard
everything you do not want, and go to everything you need. If you are not

July 29

 July 30 02.20 GMT until July 31 03.20 GMT: hex.10, line 3
July 31 03.20 GMT until August 1 04.30 GMT:

Hex.11.3 Without level places no slopes. Without going no returning. In hard
conditions determination: no fault. Do not worry over the inevitable.
Sustenance brings blessing.
(Good fortune is fragile, nothing is certain, everything contains also its
opposite. Accept it and make life proceed in all circumstances. To stay
alive is a blessing, all the rest is an extra.)
Sabian Symbol: Glass blowers.
(Melt what breaks and blow it again)
°
Changing to 19.3 Sweet nearing. Probing brings no harvest. Already sad about
it, without fault.
(Sentiments are useless. Give your feelings only to essential and valuable
things or people. Forget status, it is the inner worth that counts.)
Sabian Symbol: A nonvested church choir
(The tailor makes the man - but not his song)

(Time is given for Greenwich Main Time. For USA subtract appr. 6 hours (11
AM will be 5 AM), for China add appr. 8 hours, for Australia add appr. 9
hours (the difference between your local clock-time and GMT). Given times
are NOT exact, they may err some in either direction. I do not know if the
most important hexagram for the day is the one of midnight, or the one of
sunrise, or two hexagrams: before and after the given time)

July 31 03.20 GMT until August 1 04.14 GMT: hex.11, line 3
August 1 04.14 GMT until August 2 05.17 GMT :

Hex.12.3 Holding a sheep offering in expiation for a wrong.
(The largest obstruction is inside, from out one's conscience. So make it
free by expiation, towards people and towards the gods (or your heart and
mind). Cleanse yourself and shine again. )

Sabian Symbol: Early morning dew
(A new day after the tears of the night)
°
Changing to 33.3 Attached retreat. There is disease and danger. To keep male
and female slaves is auspicious.
(One can only retreat if one feels free and strong. One retreats to one's
own value. So untie yourself from everything which pulls you down and make
yourself the highest point of your life. With pride and grandeur.)

Sabian Symbol: A man's head
(I am the greatest)
