Mabon

by Columbine

The cicada's frantic scherzo buzzes slowly to a close
And the cricket's sweet adagio's begun
Pear, persimmon, peach and pumpkin set the funerary feast
While the dragonflies dance dirges to the Sun
Crown of wheat and crown of laurel crowd the lusty homeward road
As the songs of sweet successes fill the air
From the arms of estivation stir the unforgotten folk
Hearing grasses pipe the greetings of the fair
Soon the geese will come a-honking and the Hunter on their heels
Trail our opalescent banner 'cross the sky
Through the roots we feel it ripple, through our tendrils and our toes
Once again our world's awakening is nigh
Come Diana with your sickle, Mars' ruby at your throat
With your coterie of creatures fierce and wild
And we'll follow in your footpath with a hail and with a howl
As the Earth bears forth the precious winter's child!
