Angel's Breath
by Columbine
You who love life, drink in the evening sky
Breathe deep! The wholesome air most pleasant is
Look through Urania's round and hollow eye -
The wildwood breeze whose very taste is bliss
Is fire's best fuel, pure metamorphosis
Each cell an alchemist's kiln to transform
No poet's prestidigitation this
We are ourselves the flames which keep us warm
The raging forest fire, the howling storm
Are born of what is most of need to men
Corrosive in both pure and compound form
This acid wind that we call oxygen
Dissolves and animates us, you and I
The breath of life, the darkling Angel's sigh.
