But the imagery of this dream stuck with me through a couple more snooze cycles. In the piece that I remember, a giant sharpei - roughly the size of an elephant - was sitting in a huge recliner (with its front paws on the fully extended leg rest) and intently watching a television through which it could see everything happening in the world. Its coat was all white, puppy-soft and unblemished but a slightly off-shade like bleached bones or antique lace so as not to be blinding. Its eyes were liquid black, dark and inscrutible. It was young in that the wrinkles surrounded its face, giving the impression of sorrow and wisdom, but hadn't made it any farther back yet. There was a sense of gravitas, of the responsibility of the witness, as it watched the television. The dog was the universe's divine presence made manifest. And as I finally woke up and shuffled off to the bathroom, I remember thinking - I know I'm a little dyslexic, but that's ridiculous. Kelly J. Dreamt around 6am, Thursday 18 July 2002
