Comics and Comix
Here are some of the things I read online, in no particular order.
- Madam & Eve
- Madam is the (white) lady of the house, Eve is the (black) maid.
It's life in the new South Africa.
- Kevin & Kell
- A "mixed" marriage - he's a rabbit, she's a wolf.
- Sluggy Freelance
- A couple of nerds and a bunny with a switchblade. Also aliens,
demons, and vampires.
- Bruno
- Just people in this one - a young woman and her housemates,
friends, lovers, etc. "Acerbic wit" pretty well describes it. Not to
be confused with...
- Bruno the Bandit
- A Dungeons&Dragons type of comic.
- Helen, Sweetheart of the Internet
- "A beautiful and brilliant computer geek."
- User Friendly
- A nerd/office comic. Tech support at an ISP.
- General Protection Fault
- Another nerd/office comic.
- Goats
- Um, let's see. Two guys, an oversexed goat who used to belong to
Thor, and a demonic chicken. Oh, and beer.
- Bobbins
- British twenty-somethings who do... something.
- Waiting for Bob
- American twenty-somethings who do... something.
- Ozy & Millie
- "It's like the neighborhood you grew up in. Only with foxes and
stuff in it."
- Funny Farm
- A furry animal strip about two guys who run a boarding house,
and their tenants.
- Japanese Beetle
- Being a superhero gets in the way of going to college.
- Surf Rat & Spencer
- The usual mix of furry animals and people, with lots of nerd humor.
- Melonpool
- Two aliens, a telepathic dog, and a five-foot hamster.
- Alex's Restaurant
- A crunchy-granola, vegetarian cyber-cafe in Grassy Knoll, Wisconsin.
- Salon Comics
- Salon Magazine has arranged
things so that I can no longer link to the individual strips, but they
carry the following strips (links are to the archives):
- This Modern World
- Mostly social/political commentary, frequently starring Sparky
the Penguin.
- Story Minute
- A brilliant short-story comic, frequently reminiscient of the
Twilight Zone. Interestingly, none of the characters ever have names.
- The K Chronicles
- First-person thoughts/anecdotes from a black cartoonist/musician/youth hostel clerk
- Tom the Dancing Bug
- Usually some sort of oblique social/political commentary
(contains no character named "Tom", no dancing, and no bugs).
- Freefall
- An alien, a robot, and a sentient wolf on a spaceship.
- Darwin & Co.
- Weekly animal strip.
- FEW and FAR Between
- Very hard to explain. A story comic, but sort of non-linear
story-telling. Well worth spending some time with.
- Doctor Fun
- Single-panel, off-the-wall humor. Currently on hiatus, may never
come back, but you can read the archives while you're waiting.
- Bob the Angry Flower
- See, it's this giant talking flower, get it?
