Okay, so for various reasons it's been nearly a week since I saw this show, and I was pretty tired at the time. So here are the impressions that remain with me a week later:
Ketman are kind of an interesting noise-punk trio. The vocals are largely screamed, but are largely inaudible with Charlie's somewhat dodgy PA situation. My favorite thing about the band is the guitar, a wonderful dissonant wash, but the rhythm section is also very good. Next time, I'll check out the vocals, I hope.
YSA's vocals are almost completely inaudible; it's sobering to realize that there's a guy screaming at the top of his lungs not 10 feet away from me, and I can only tell because I can see him. I'm glad I've started wearing earplugs. The drum machine is also nearly inaudible, which I can't help but think is a good thing. This is their second and last show with their amazing fill-in keyboard player—amazing in part because I am assured that she never played keyboard before their astounding show with Ho-Ag. She appears to have a gift, and if she's not going to be a permanent member of YSA, somebody else should snap her up. Positioned in front of the bassist, I really appreciate his powerful and intricate lines. And the energy of a YSA set is always overwhelming, even if they do remain rather shockingly clothed this evening.
